Somalilanders Reconcile Peacefully under the Acacia TreeSomalilanders Reconcile Peacefully under the Acacia TreeEDITORIAL

Recent clashes between army officers and civilians that resulted in 7 deaths and subsequent death and life imprisonment sentences imposed by a military court martial are unfortunate and regrettable occurrences.

The incidence which was instigated by land grabbing claims is the worst to happen between the government and civilians since the country reclaimed its sovereignty 21 years. While we all sympathize and support the cause of the civilians, we abhor their method.

The government and traditional leaders from the civilian perpetrators clan and those from the rest of Somaliland's clans are in discussion thus resolving the issue amicably to the satisfaction of both sides.

Somalilanders are legendary in their under the ACACIA TREE Reconciliations which are behind peace and security that has prevailed in the country for 21 years, a period in which some of its neighbours have gained notoriety for killing each other , in some instances for the simple reason of having looked at person in a manner he deems unbecoming!!!!

While Somalilanders have conducted their affairs without bilateral support the civilian-army clashes in Hargeisa seem to have taken an international dimension with The United Nations envoy in Somalia, Augustine P. Mahiga, expressing his concern

According to a UN Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) statement issued on Saturday "The Special Representative of the Secretary-General [Mr. Mahiga] regrets the loss of life on both sides and expresses concern the trial of these civilians was conducted by a military in contradiction of both applicable local statutes and customary norms of standards of international law,"

Though it is heartening to see Mahiga concerned for civilian lies in Somaliland, the ambassador's interference in local issues is uncalled-for, as we Somalilanders are adept at solving our differences amicable, not to mention that this adeptness has been acquired without the good ambassador's input as he is always dancing to the civilian killing and public funds misappropriation tunes of the TFG.

It is again imperative that Ambassador Mahiga realize that we have not yet forgiven him for a number of ills committed against the sacrosanct statehood of Somaliland most important being his open support for Awdal and Khatuumo secessionist who are said to thrive on his financial and material largesse.

Ambassador Mahiga, a picture of you draped in the purported Awdal state flag, in company of some known Somaliweyn GULWADE's, somewhere in North America after the last General assembly is still vivid in our memories. It is a photograph that turns every Somalilander in his sleep, one never to be Forgotten or Forgiven.

Although that act of yours Amb Mahiga is treasonable in our country, Somalilanders have continued to treat you with respect whenever you have some political interferences to perform in our country, the most recent being your arm twisting visit immediately our government announced withdrawal from Somali talks.

Quoting the UNOPS statement "He urges the immediate transfer of the case to a criminal court and encourages the authorities to ensure that fair trial rights are respected in a new trial," UNPOS added, noting that Mr. Mahiga is also calling for a full, impartial, independent and transparent investigation into the incident and its aftermath.

This makes one wonder whether the good ambassador's obsession with the dysfunctional TFG has made him blind to the good governance practiced by Somalilanders or has the obsession made him loss his senses of recall.

Has the Amb forgotten an international Security Consultation conference he convened in Hargeisa presumably to be taught locally brewed reconciliation skills so that he can utilize them in his burning fiefdom of Benadir?

Has the imminent ambassador further forgotten that during the same security conference he termed Somaliland as ripe for recognition due to its successful reconciliation and justice system?

For once am forced to agree with Al-shabaab which has on several occasions accused the Ambassador of not being a UN special representative but actually the president of Somalia. WHY? Simply because his statement smells of the thoughts of the holder of the presidency in Mogadishu, continuously envious of Somaliland successes especially in peaceful reconciliations under the acacia tree without externally supplied multimillion dollars

Ambassador Augustine Mahiga wake up from the TFG, UNISOM and Al-Shabaab induced slumber and acknowledge once and for all that SOMALILANDERS RECONCILE THEIR DIFFERENCES PEACEFULLY UNDER the ACACIA TREE
