Somalilandsun- In 1958 The British Protectorate of Somaliland had a royal visit: the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. During this tour, the Duke brought a special message of greetings from the Queen to her loyal Somali subjects .
Ceremonial parades were a feature of the visit. The Duchess visited the Sheikh Secondary school and was entertained by girl students. Near Hargeisa, about a hundred mounted tribesmen had gathering to express their loyal greetings. A short visit to Aden completed the Duke and Duchess's tour.
Official transcripts of the the Royal visit provided by Barry Scowen then a young boy living in somalilamd with his British protectorate administrator father indicate that the British royals visited Hargeisa , Borame and Burao were entertained to various majestic forms of activities
Somaliland which is currently yet to recognized as sovereign country internationally having withdrawn in 1991 from its voluntary later turned fateful union of 1960 with Somalia became fully independent from Britain following a
Royal proclamation of Queen Elizabeth II granted independence to the British Somaliland Protectorate at midnight 25th June, 1960 – and State of Somaliland came into being on 26June.
