His Majesty’s Jurisdiction in the Somaliland Protectorate – March 1930

Somalilandsun – Published by authority – TUESDAY, 25 MARCH, 1930. Here is an order by His Majesty the King of the Bristish Empire relating to the territories of Africa known as the Somaliland Protectorate . This is a history item very useful to students of Somaliland Republic.
At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 17th day of December, 1929.
PRESENT:
The KING’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council.
WHERE AS the Territories of Africa known as the Somaliland Protectorate are under the protection of His Majesty the King : And whereas by treaty, grant, usage, sufferance and other lawful means His Majesty has power and jurisdiction in the Somaliland Protectorate: And whereas by the Somaliland Order in Council, 1899, provision was made for the exercise of His Majesty’s jurisdiction in the Somaliland Protectorate for the administration of justice, the raising of revenue, and generally for the peace, order and good government of all persons resident therein:
And whereas the said Order has been amended or added to by divers other Orders of His Majesty in Council:
And whereas it is expedient to consolidate the said Orders in Council and to make further and other provision for the administration of His Majesty’s jurisdiction in the said Protectorate and generally for the peace, order and good government thereof:
Now therefore, His Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers on this behalf by the Foreign Jurisdiction Act, 1890, or otherwise in His Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy ‘Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—
PART I.—PRELIMINARY.
1. This Order may be cited as the Somaliland Order in Council, 1929.
2. The Somaliland Order in Council, 1899, and the other Orders in Council specified in Schedule I hereto are hereby revoked as from the. commencement of this Order.
Provided as follows: —
(i) Any law practice or procedure established by or under the said revoked Orders shall remain in force until other provision is made under this Order.
(ii) Every appointment of & Judge or other officer and every Court established and existing at the commencement of this Order, shall, until other provision is made, continue to be as if this Order had not been passed.
(iii) All legal proceedings begun under the said revoked Orders and pending at the commencement of this Order, shall be continued as if this Order had not been passed.
(iv) All Rules of Court and other provisions made under the said revoked Orders shall be and remain in force until otherwise provided under this Order.
3. In this Order—
(i) ” The Protectorate ” means the territories for the time being comprised in His Majesty’s Somaliland Protectorate;
(ii) ” The Secretary of State ” means one of His Majesty’s Principal Secretaries of State
