Somali Prosecutors and Maritime Police Officers at a EUCAP Somalia Legal Maritime Seminar in Mogadishu

Somalilandsun- On July 20th, Somali Prosecutors and Maritime Police Officers successfully concluded a three-day Maritime Legal Seminar in Mogadishu organized by EUCAP Somalia in cooperation with the EU Military Training Mission in Somalia, EUTM and EU NAVFOR Atalanta.

“The cooperation between the police and prosecutors in the maritime context” and “the Somali Legal system related to the Maritime Police Unit legal tasks and responsibilities” were among the subjects touched by the seminar, which is part of an on-going effort to help strengthen the cooperation between Somali police and prosecutors.
The EU Military Training Mission in Somalia, EUTM, supported the seminar’s organization. EUTM personnel held lectures explaining about Mission’s mandate and activities in relation to the Somali stabilization.
EUNAVFOR Atalanta presented Mission’s activities and achievements in disrupting and suppressing piracy, including the legal framework that supports the counter-piracy engagement.
The legal maritime seminar focused on the cooperation between Somali prosecutors and Maritime Police Unit is the fourth in line organized by EUCAP in Mogadishu the last 10 months.
This continuous effort is expected to progressively enhance the cooperation between Somali prosecutors and police within the legal-maritime field.
EUCAP Somalia is a civilian EU mission, under the auspices of the Common Security and Defence Policy, which assists Somalia in strengthening its capacity to ensure maritime security.
