Somalilandsun – Dear All, I would like to thank you for your previous gift to the Edna Adan Hospital Foundation. Your generous donation allowed us to train midwifery students and help reduce among the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world.

Recently in collaboration with Connecther and We Care Solar, we continued to serve women and children in need by providing health workers in four rural communities with reliable lighting, mobile communication, and medical devices using solar electricity.

Sporadic electricity compromises the ability of community midwives to provide safe, appropriate, and timely medical care. Midwives are forced to make treatment decisions without the benefit of necessary diagnostic tests. Obstetric procedures are conducted under grossly suboptimal conditions, and can have tragic consequences.

This International Women’s Day, we invite you to honor women by making a donation which will provide additional portable power units to serve an increasing number of pregnant women in rural Somaliland impacted by the drought.

Thank you for your continued support. Dr Edna Aden Ismail
