Somalilandsun -Since July 2017, the Somaliland Mission to the UK has been meeting with British Somalilander communities across the country. Most recently, a delegation from the Somaliland Mission to the UK visited Sheffield and Manchester, undertaking meetings with the Lord Mayor of Manchester, local MPs and Councillors, and the British Somaliland community in Manchester, and in Sheffield with the British Somaliland community.
In Manchester, the Mission held discussions with political figures with the aim of cultivating deeper relations between the City of Manchester and the British Somaliland community. The delegation’s fruitful and friendly meetings with British Somaliland communities in Manchester and Sheffield focused on ways to continue and deepen their cooperation. The Mission addressed a range of issues raised by the community, including visa restrictions at airports for British-born young Somalilanders, support for young Somalilanders detained in the criminal justice system, and Somaliland’s future recognition. In addition, the Mission and community discussed Somaliland’s election preparations.
We will be visiting other cities with large Somaliland populations in the near future.
