The mayor of Mogadishu

Somaliland sun- For those who left Somalia, what does Mogadishu mean today? And what does a Somali transnational politics look like? From London the experience of the diaspora, the politics of transnationalism, and the challenges of return is explored together with journalist Andrew Harding, activist Adam Matan, academic Idil Osman and other speakers to be confirmed.
The function dubbed Mogadishu: Memory, Politics and Return is entirely free of charge shall be held on Tuesday, 6 September 2016 -7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Khalili Lecture Theatre, SOAS, University of London where The Mayor of Mogadishu, a novel by Andrew Harding shall be launched.

The Mayor of Mogadishu is an ‘uplifting story of survival, and a compelling examination of what it means to lose a country and then to reclaim it’ it tells the story of Mohamud ‘Tarzan’ Nur, who after spending twenty years in north London, returned to Mogadishu to become Mayor.

Though the event is free and open to all, seating is limited.
