GAMBADA (Somalilandsun) – Residents of Gambada district in the Somaliland region of Sool have thanked the ministry of Water development for rehabilitating the areas water supply.
According to the Sool regional ministry of water coordinator Ahmed Mahmud Artan the rehabilitation of the borehole which will avail residents of Gambada town and surrounding areas sufficient clean drinking water was made possible courtesy of cooperation between the international migration office-IOM and the ministry of water development headquarters in Hargeisa.
The regional coordinator who addressed the borehole opening ceremony at Gambada town 30 kms east of Las Anod the Sool regional capital urged residents to utilize the rehabilitated water point with care for prolonged life while informing that his boss the Somaliland water minister Bashe Ali Jama has promised more water sources in the area.
“On behalf of the minister I hereby extend thanks to IOM and all those who took part in helping rehabilitate the borehole thence avail sufficient safe drinking water to residents of Gambada” said the regional water coordinator.
Briefing on the developments effected at the main Gambada water supply borehole site engineer Mustafa Isse Hussein revealed that a 60-KVA water pump accompanied by 14 assorted pipes have been installed at the site and are fully functional.
In the recent past Minister Bashe Ali Jama has been on intensified activities towards water development in the Eastern regions of Somaliland and more so in Sool region that lags behind others in the country.
Queried by somalilandsun minister Bashe Ali Jama stated that ongoing activities in Sool region and other parts of the country by his ministry and diverse local and international partners was in line with fulfilling the polices of the administration of president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo geared towards ensuring that all citizens of Somaliland have access to sufficient and clean drinking water for both human and livestock.
Minister Bashe also took the opportunity to thank IOM for their contribution towards the Gambada rehabilitation project and others in the country, the Somaliland Development Fund-SDF for its similar interventions that have been of impact in various parts of the country as well as members of the armed forces for chipping in with labour.
