Somalilandsun – The Information, National Guidance and Culture Hon. Osman Abdillahi Sahardid Addani has expounded on the importance of the Berbera Port-Dubai World (DP) agreement to the economy of the country.
Speaking to the press at his office yesterday, the minister made it clear the DP’s proposal was evaluated to being the best in a three-year long period search of investiture to fledge the harbour.
Hon. Sahardid clarified the fact that the signed agreement was a preliminary one.
“What has been signed so far is a memorandum of Understanding (MoU)” said the minister.
He said that of all competitors who vied for the opportunity to invest in the port, the DP happened to be the only one which proposed to inject investment to various sectors to the advantage of the country’s economy.
“The DP’s proposal was one that carried multilateral aspects hence would boost other state coffers and economic sectors in the minerals and marine resources, the Berbera corridor, the agricultural sector, the free zone and the infrastructures”, he elaborated.
He substantiated that, “Apart from the over 440 million dollars earmarked for the port expansion the other sectors would be injected with more funds whose total would surpass the billion mark”.
He further said that DP’s favorability to SL’s interest were contained in its proposals to indulge SL in its management.
Hon. Sahardid said that since labour is one of the biggest issues to be prioritized, the Dubai World investiture would create the establishment of over 7000 companies
“The establishment of 7500 companies which would certainly curtail human trafficking is an opportunity which is God-send”, said the minister.
This organization is one with top international repute hence has managed even US ports.
On the other hand the minister cautioned the media fraternity hence urged them to toe expected ethical lines hence desist from the condoning or peddling of lies and uncorroborated articles;
He said that the media is indeed independent in SL but such integral rights should not be jeopardized by flouting the basic etiquettes and regulations.
