HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – 150 tons of assortment equipment to establish an asphalt production factory has arrived in Hargeisa.
The equipment purchased from Ethiopia by the Hargeisa municipality was received at a flashy ceremony outside the Somaliland presidency by several members of the city beautification committee led by first lady Amina Weris and including the mayor of Hargeisa Abdirahman Solteco, the ministers of finance and Interior Zamzam Abdi and Mohamed Waran’ade respectively.
During a press briefing the first lady said that the arrival of the large consignment was a pride for not only the owner, Hargeisa municipality, but the entire country as well owing to the ease that constructing and rehabilitating roads in the city the modern equipment entails.
According to the finance minister the new implements are an example of the importance of the various taxes collected by both the central and local governments for it is the fees that make such purchases possible.
In his stead the minister of interior took the occasion to thank the Hargeisa municipality for coming up with the idea of such a factory and the ministry of finance for payment of the initial $1m payment that made the purchase possible.
While welcoming the 150 tons consignment of equipment which he termed as the second of the entire to be procured, with the current earmarked solely to equip a concrete and macadam manufacturing factory, the mayor of Hargeisa said that an initial batch including assorted types of earthmovers and trucks among others is already in place.
“Though the entire lot to be procured from Ethiopia is the property of the Hargeisa municipality other local councils shall also benefit whenever required” said mayor Solteco
