HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The country’s diplomatic representation in Kenya and Djibouti is to see new faces after current officials were fired by the Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo.
A press statement released from the presidency informed that pursuant to presidential decree # JSL/M/XERM/249-3129/032015 Ambassador Mahmud Abdilahi Jama ‘Sifir’ and Mohamed Hirsi Kalinle have been relieved with immediate effect of their duties as the Somalia d resident representatives in Kenya and Djibouti respectively.
In the same breath the head of state decreed the appointment of Ali Hussein Ismail Jirde and Mohamed Warsame Ali Egal as the country’s new ministry of foreign affairs representatives in Kenya and Djibouti respectively.
While commending the fired diplomats for their service to the nation and urging diligence on their replacements the president also ordered an immediate hand over of office and duties thence maintain the flow of foreign relations with the two African countries that are also members of IGAD a regional body in which Somaliland has observer status.
Though the dismissal of Sifir is apparently as a result of complaints of the Somaliland diaspora in Kenya the removal of Kaline from his Djibouti perch remains fuzzy not to mention the intricacies involved since the outgoing diplomat hosts the country’s Djibouti mission in his personal compound.
As for the much experienced Sifir a diplomat of long standing, but whose performance in Kenya has been very lackluster his removal is not only apt but long overdue and hopefully things with the giant East African country will pick up again
