Somaliland: Political Parties Ascertain Readiness of NEC to Hold 2015 Slated Elections

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The National Election Commission-NEC has been given a clean bill of health as relates to capabilities to hold elections effectively.
This was announced during a press conference conducted by leaders of the three national Somaliland political parties in Hargeisa after a closed door meeting with NEC commissioners at the electoral body’s headquarters.
The leaders of ruling Kulmiye and opposition parties of Wadani and UCID who spoke to the press all concurred on the readiness of NEC to conduct presidential and parliamentary elections slated for mid-2015 effectively especially after mock elections held in June.
Upon informing that the closed door meeting with NEC which concluded successfully came upon request from the electoral body for briefing on related developments as per arrangements put in place for 2015 each of the three party leaders then took the podium to address issues discussed.

According to the chairman of Wadani party cum speaker of parliament Abdirahman Irro the mock election conducted in some parts of the country have proved the capabilities of NEC to undertake the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary election of 2015 effectively the issuance of ID cum voter cards is a must prior to the exercise.
As per the chairman of UCID Eng. Feisal Ali Warabe who commended the 7 national election commissioners for a job well done towards arrangements for 2015, the onus is now upon parliament and government as pertains to the approval and implementation of citizens registration laws.
The chairman of the ruling Kulmiye party central committee Jama Shebeel who added his party’s commendations to the good work done by NEC also revealed that the government is determined to hold the 2015 elections on time and without fail.
