2nd Strongst army in Africa and 28th Globally

Somalilandsun – Recently the website Global Firepower ranked 68 countries by their military strength in 2013. Seven countries from Africa made the list but Uganda never did no matter the praises that it has one of the well-trained armies on the continent. Not even its role in African peacekeeping forces put it any close while Egypt was ranked #1 in Africa followed closely by Ethiopia.

Ethiopia was ranked 28 globally and 2nd on the African continent as a result of its large population and the long independence from colonisation. Its military is made up of an army and an air force. Earlier this year it was reported that the Ethiopian military had developed their first drone (unmanned aerial vehicle); a military technology most often associated with the United States.

The values showcased below are all considered for the final GFP ranking recognized as the “Power Index” (abbrv: “PwrIndx”). PwrIndx scores are judged on a perfect value of “0.0000” which is realistically unattainable due to the number of factors considered per country. Bonuses and penalties are added to each nation (as needed) while landlocked countries (ex: Austria) are not penalized for lack of a standing navy.

A total of 106 countries make up the GFP ranked list.
