Somalilandsun – Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu held phone talks with Somalia’s Interior Minister Abdikarim Hussein Guled and Somaliland’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Yonis.

High-level talks between Somalia and Somaliland on reaching future agreements began in April last year in Turkey’s capital Ankara. An agreement was signed on Saturday, committing Somaliland and Somalia to resolve issues and to cooperate.

Somalia’s Interior Minister Guled and Somaliland’s Foreign Minister Yonis both said in the signed agreement that they condemn all the atrocities committed by the military regime in Somalia before 1991 against all Somali people and the people in Somaliland, particularly.

Somaliland declared its independence from Somalia in 1991 after the Somali Civil War, which caused the Somali central government to collapse. Guled and Yonis said they share the pain inflicted upon the Somali people by the military regime in Somalia before the year 1991.

Guled and Yonis, who have been in Istanbul since January 16 for a third round of talks, spoke during their own separate phone talks.

Davutoglu congratulated the ministers for reaching an agreement on how to continue the process from now on.

Underlining that the building of a new secretariat in Turkey is satisfactory, Davutoglu said Turkey would continue to support the agreement process.

Guled and Yonis thanked Davutoglu for his attention to the agreement process, and said they were grateful to Turkey for playing an active role between the two sides.
