BORAME (Somalilandsun) – The minister of education Hon Zamzam Abdi Aden was the chief guest at a football at Amud University where she awarded winners their bonanza.
The final match of the Amud University student’s football tournament which pitted the freshman class against Education department was a culmination of several matches which saw classic football displayed all along.
In the well attended match both teams did not hit the net after the regular ninety minutes had elapsed which forcing the referee to add an additional 30 minutes but all in vain thence the resulting penalties shoot-out that decided the winner and runners up.
The freshman team surprised their colleague’s from education by prevailing for first time in the history of the tournament which is in its seventh year the freshman team won in the exciting match.
Speaking after the game at varsity grounds venue the minister of education Ms Zamzam Abdi congratulated the winning freshman team said that sports and education are intertwined and they go a long way in helping improve the character of students adding that other educational institutions in the country should emulate Amud university sports curriculum.
At the ceremony to witness the final match and crowning of the new varsity football champions were students, deans of different faculties and parents.
According to the dean of students affairs Prof. Mohammed Mohamed Jama the tournament was not only exciting but a lesson on how other activities should be handled.
The president of the university Prof Suleiman Ahmed Gulled who also spoke at the venue said that his institution is giving a priority to competitive sports and welcome the connection sport and the society have. He congratulated the two teams which reached the final of the game
Hon Zamzam Abdi Aden also handed over an assortment of sports gears donated by the Somaliland First lady Amina Mohamed ‘Weris’
