HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The administration is not conducting environmental activities in Sool region as required.

This was revealed by the Somaliland Ministry of Environment Sool Regional coordinator Abdikarim Ahmed Farah during in Hargeisa where he is currently visiting on official duties.

Said he “While the Sool regional environment office in Las anod town is fully staffed the lack of offices and transport impinge on effective performance of activities”

Mr. Farah who also informed that all districts are similarly staffed as the regional office urged the central government through the ministry of environment to urgently explore avenues of availing relevant infrastructures, transport and equipment.

“Unless the regional staff are availed a conducive working base it shall be next to impossible in arresting the deteriorating environment or provide any protective measures” said Mr. Abdikarim A Farah.

Sool regional is slowly getting integrated into the Somaliland administrative structures following the Buhodle peace accord signed between President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo and then commander of the Sool Sanaag Cayn (Ain)-SSC militias but currently the Somaliland Health Minister Dr Suleiman Isse Hagaltosie.

Though major segments of the peace accord that entails peaceful reconciliation have been effected mainly the disbandment and subsequent assimilation of SSC militias into the three branches of the nation’s armed forces as well as the appointment of several Sool intellectuals and politicians into high ranking positions in the central government, the fact is public services are yet to fully reach the common man.

For the central government to capitalize on the massive goodwill now prevailing as pertains to the sovereignty of Somaliland within the eastern regions and deter activities like the recent Taleeh attack by Puntland forces and political campaigns by Garowe wannabes, Hargeisa needs to take the bull by the horns and make residents of Eastern regions proud of being Somalilanders.
