Somalilandsun – The Chairman of Ansar Burney Trust, Ansar Burney, has again requested the UN Secretary General, entire world for assistance against female circumcision from most African some Arab, Middle Eastern and Asian countries including Pakistan and India.

Ansar Burney recently visited Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Somaliland and other African countries this regards to create awareness against female circumcision (FGM), human trafficking, slavery and Terrorism and urged upon UN to take action to save young girls from humiliation and violation of human dignity.

He said that female genital mutilation (FGM) is recognized internationally as a violation of human dignity and violation of female rights, demanding African, some Arab and Asian Countries including India and Pakistan, to clean this menace immediately and stop this cruel violence against humanity without any further delay.

He deliberated that FGM comprised all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.

Burney explained that the procedure harmed girls and women in many ways, as it involves removing and damaging healthy and normal female genital tissue, and interferes with the natural functions of girls’ and women’s bodies.

Ansar Burney said that it reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against female, often minors from the ages of 4 years and age 15, occasionally on adult women.

“Increased risk of HIV is prevalent among women who had undergone FGC.”Ansar Burney, added., while also deliberating that such practice also violated a person’s rights to health, security, physical integrity, right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life when the procedure results in death.

The procedure, traditionally carried out by an older woman with no medical training, involved excludes use of anesthetics and antiseptic treatment and is usually carried out using basic tools such as knives, scissors, scalpels, pieces of glass and razor blades. Often iodine or a mixture of herbs is placed on the wound to tighten the vagina and stop the bleeding.
