Somaliland: Raysut Cement Plans Construction of Cement Terminal at Berbera Port

Somalilandsun- Oman’s Raysut Cement Co has announced its plans to build a state-of-the-art cement terminal in Berbera Port, Somaliland, and a grinding plant in Mukulla in Yemen through joint ventures with local partners in these countries.

The board of directors of the company has also approved a plan to build a new cement terminal in Duqm Port.

The company also plans to expand the production capacity and processes of its UAE subsidiary, Pioneer Cement Industries. Regarding the expansion of Raysut Cement subsidiary Pioneer Cement Industries LLC in Ras al Khaima, the company said that the projects include an additional cement silo in addition to upgrading the cooling system and environment management system.

The estimated cost to be contributed by Raysut Cement in the above projects is US$24mn.

Mohamed Ahmed al Dheeb, Group CEO of Raysut Cement, said in the company announcement,

“The Duqm terminal will be used for storing, packing and distributing cement and it will have all the facilities, including two silos with a capacity of 4000MT each. The facility is expected to become operational in the second half of 2014.”

“The board of directors has approved to establish modern state-of-the- art cement terminal in Berbera Port in Somalia, as a joint venture with one of the local partners. This terminal for storing, packing and distribution of cement will have all the facilities and equipment including three silos with the capacity of 4000MT each,” he added.

He further said, “The board approved to establish a grinding plant in Mukulla through the sister company, Mukalla Rysut Company, as a joint venture with a local partner with the capacity of 500,000 MT per annum. This plant shall carry out grinding and packing of cement in Yemen.”
