Somalilandsun – According to reader Ngonyo wa Mwavou “Kizuri chajiuza kibaya chajitembeza”. Roughly translates as a good thing sells itself a bad one advertises itself
Read below select comments from our reader on the No 10 Downing Street meeting between president Silanyo and David Cameron.
Abdi 2013-04-17 23:26 Are you suggesting Britain can or will force Somaliland to attend? You are deluded. This government is temporary, it won’t survive the next election. Even if they insist, it is only words. The facts on the ground are different and Somaliland reiterated it will not attend. It does not concern Somaliland, unlike Somalia it doesn’t need to beg for help, in return for minerals.
Awdal boy 2013-04-18 09:56: British and Somaliland have known each other for centuries and they are our brothers and they will always Remain to be our partners -so for those Southerners who does not even know nothing about history between the two communities -do as you told by Silanyo and Cameron.
Mohamed cheers 2013-04-17 22:50 These Somaliland and Somalia talksstarted from the LCS Feb 2012 and eventually would conclude in London. Am encouraged that great progress are being made and that one way or the other the conflicting seperate views between the Hargeisa and Mogadiscio Govts would be settled with the full Technical impartial supports of Britain and the other allied IC partners. Hopefully the Wash DC official trip this week of President Silaanyo and his team delegation for discussions with the Obama Administration would be more fruitful and resourceful to give the green light for the full recognition of Somaliland Independent Sovereignty it so deserves.Cheers.
Ngonyo wa Mwavou 2013-04-18 21:19: There is no need for the defenders of Somaliland to stoop low and use divisive tactic, please shun ethicizing the debates, the country belongs to all who support it especially those within the borders demarcated by the British.
Somaliland does not need to be defended it’s a shining example of democracy in the Horn and East Africa region as a whole. Somaliland has proven that Africans can (without interference from outside) come together and build a nation. The Somaliland people have built their institution ground up and unlike Somalia where intervention from East African countries and the international community have imposed a selected few as the “leaders” of the Somali people. A Swahili saying aptly describes the two “Kizuri chajiuza kibaya chajitembeza”. Roughly translates as a good thing sells itself a bad one advertises itself. Somaliland does not have to convince anyone about its peace and progress “the proof of the pudding is in the eating” Somaliland has been around for over 20 years, while Somalia has been synonymous to failure and chaos. It is even un-Islamic to choose chaos than stability. As the saying goes it’s better to live under tyranny for hundreds of years then live in chaos for one day. Somalia =chaos
Facts over fiction 2013-04-19 02:26: Somaliland will remain,so comment all you like,we are ready to protect what’s ours,Faqash don’t control our borders so until they do keep dreaming,it’s bigger than silanyo and the government they are temporary somaliland is permanent, sorry to break your hearts you Faqash lovers lol
AYA 2013-04-19 05:05: Let’s give a chance the government of Somaliland and the opposition parties attending the conference in London. The government of Turkey,Great Britian, and the United states made clear that Somalia should be united. Why,Because the world is tired the death and destruction day in day out in Mogadishu. What sadness many ordinary people the succession of these hapless governments in Mogdishu that cannot protect its citizens from violent criminals disguising as religious saviors. At Al-shabab must be stopped and finished ,but at least, they are not dividing southern Somalia. The very people that is protecting the FSG are dividing Somalia into Bantustan fiefdoms. That is the new sad chapter that our neighbors are adding the already compounded Southern Somalia problems. The big powers are not doing nothing about.Yet they are telling Somaliland you should join that festering furnace in Somalia south.Although both Great britian ,and the United States recognize the achievements of Somaliland in terms of security of terrorism and piracy in their area, they do not want to go extra mile and recognize Somaliland. Therefore, what is Mr, David Cameron,Mr,Obam a would tell Mr,Siianyo,is they would increase their,he would get his cut “Somaliland” donation from Mr, Hassan Shiekh. In that way you “president Silanyo ,and president Hassan would have relationship to work out your differences!.”Walla Magic Solution”,I think so. How is that would make Somaliland look in the future for it’s long waiting quest?.I am not saying let us staying home either . What I am saying is Mr ,Silanyo is walking very find line. Let us wait and see how the president of Somaliland navigate these waters.
Nasir 2013-04-18 10:17: Who is at Number 10 Downing Street? The president of Somaliland of course, that should tell you guys the weight and importance of Somaliland, Somaliland boycotted the 7th May London conference and all Mr Cameron can ask the president is if he could change his mind because it puts Britain in an uncomfortable position to host a conference on Somalia without Somaliland. The question Mr Silanyo will be asking Mr Cameron is: What is in it for Somaliland? and that is where Somalilanders need a satisfactory answer. Now can anybody tell me What is in this conference for Somaliland? There are already other talks going on between Somaliland and Somalia. or Is the UK in competition with Turkey to be more influential on Somali affairs. There are so many things going on behind the scenes. Where there is oil there is business, Somaliland oil doing wonders before it is even produced. Somaliland Samo ku waar
